Doctor's Offices

I've had quite a bit of experience with doctor's offices, nurses, doctors, hospitals, clinics, specialists, etc. over the past few years, and I must say it is a very rare thing to find someone who works at these places who is nice. I don't expect nurses or receptionists to gush and make a big deal when a patient presents themself, but I do expect them to at least be nice. I don't think it's much to ask. I know offices can get really busy, but that's the nature of that world. People who aren't feeling well generally tend to visit these places, and the last thing they need is to be snapped at for asking a question. Not nice.

I have one major complaint about the clinic I go to. In the summer I had a migraine that lasted 5 days. I've never had one before, and this one was pretty intense. I don't know if they get much worse pain-wise. Anyway, because I'd never had one, I went to see my doctor, who I think is great. No complaints about him at all. He prescribed some medication and said it should start to work pretty quickly. Well, it didn't. I had to go and see him the next day because I was no better. At that point, he decided I should go for a CT scan, just because this was something new, and it was pretty bad. He told me that I was on a short list because of the migraine, and I could receive a call to go for the scan anytime. Meaning, that day, middle of the night, or whatever. Anyway, I got over the headache, and after a few weeks, hadn't heard anything about the scan, so I called St. B. to find out how long I should expect to wait. I was told 16-18 weeks. So, I didn't call again. Last week I started wondering about it since I hadn't heard anything yet, so I called St. B. again, and they said they had an appointment for me on September 22nd, and I didn't show up. I hadn't even been notified of the appointment, so that's why I was a no-show. The woman at St. B. was actually nice, and said that they had faxed my doctor's office on August 29th with my appointment time, and it was up to them to let me know when to go. I didn't receive a phone call, a letter, or anything. Plus, I've been to the doctor I don't know how many times over the last couple of months, and nothing was mentioned about it.

Anyway, I managed to get squeezed in this coming Friday, thankfully.

I'm not worried at all. I might be a little concerned if I had more migraines and headaches, but I've been feeling fine, so I really don't think they're going to find anything at all. I'm only going as a precaution. I don't know how long it takes for the doctor to get the report, but I'll have to call them to let them know that I'm going for the appointment, and I'll have to stay on top of them to make sure they let me know when the results are sent. I only hope for their sake that they're nice when I call.

That's my rant for the week.

I'm just getting home from work, so I need to go and unwind somehow. Maybe I'll just go right to bed.

Bye for now.

I know what you mean about rude ass people working in the heath field. We delt with that the first hospital visit out here with Amy.. it sucks!! There really is no need for it especially dealing with sick scared people.

I cant believe they didnt tell you about that appointment!! I'm glad they could get you in on Friday. I'm sure everything is fine but its still a little scary.

I too understand the need for nice when dealing with the medical field. My angst is with dentist offices. I'm scared (not nervous, it is way beyond nervous)and I don't need to be lectured by hygenists, dental assistants and especially the dentist him/herself. I am very lucky at this point that I have found (with the help of Jenn and Judy)a WONDERFUL office to go to. For anyone who is like me and is petrified, his name is Dr. Tom Swanlund. They couldn't be nicer or gentler. I don't mind going at all. I've had the same experiences as you in the past Char and it is uncalled for.

When you guys were little, Dr. Bermack was not a nice person. I complained and was told I wasn't the only one and it would be taken care of. He was hauled up on the carpet by his partners and was told to either smarten up or leave. As you know, he ended up being the Dr. that if he told me to jump off the roof cause it would make you feel better I'd have done it.

Anyway that is my rant about this subject.
